The 26-27 Field Trip Season is Open!
Welcome to the farm!
The HEAL Project’s Farm Field Trips are a favorite activity for more than 5,000 kids from the Bay Area every year. Join us on the farm and help your students:
Get hands-on learning with plants, compost, worms, and more
Harvest veggies right from the ground
Prepare healthy snacks (and enjoy eating them!)
Take a nature hike and feel their minds calm down in the peaceful hills
TK-5 Experiences
New this season! We’re rolling out brand new field trip experiences by grade level. All trips:
Meet CA Next Generation Science Standards (including new Climate Change requirements!)
Include Social-Emotional Learning elements
Are available in fall and spring, with adaptation for the season as appropriate.

All of our field trip programs offer age-appropriate, hands-on lessons in science, environmental stewardship, and health.
Our Farm Educators partner with teachers and program leaders to align each visit with your learning goals and classroom curriculum.
Rooted in Next Generation Science Standards, our approach is experiential and engaging. The farm becomes a living classroom where students actively explore, plant, and harvest, deepening their understanding through direct connection with the land and their food.

All programs begin at 10:00 am and are offered M-F from September-November and March - May. Duration varies by age/grade.

Due to the shorter duration of the program, time for lunch is not included in the schedule. If you’d like to include lunch during or after your visit, please reach out to our team after registration.1st - 12th Grade
Students should bring their lunches to enjoy at our picnic tables during the lunch break. All trash must be packed out after the program.

Pre-K and Special Education
Hands-on exploration using the senses to discover living vs. non-living things, and how plants and animals grow and meet their basic needs.

Kindergarten
Understanding what plants and animals need to survive, how they shape their environments, and how we can care for the land.

1st Grade
Exploring plant parts and their functions, how plants grow from seeds, and the importance of healthy foods.

2nd Grade
Discovering pollination, comparing life in different habitats, and learning how farmers help feed the community.

3rd Grade
Investigating life cycles, how the environment influences growth, and how people shape the land for agriculture.

4th Grade
Connecting plant and animal structures to survival, exploring land and farming, and learning about nutrition and food safety.

5th Grade
Understanding ecosystems and Earth’s systems, and how food choices impact personal and environmental health.
Middle & High School Experiences
For older students, our farm experiences go deep! We offer trips that focus on:
Examining food system impact
Exploring agricultural careers
Learning Indigenous land stewardship, and
engaging in hands-on service projects

Pricing
All listed prices are per visit for one standard sized class. Teachers and up to nine chaperones and classroom aides attend free of charge.

All public schools in San Mateo County receive subsidized pricing for field trips, with fees varying based on a school’s Unduplicated Pupil Count (UPC). UPC is a metric that includes students who eligible for free/reduced-price lunches/meals, English language learners, foster youth, and/or unhoused youth.
Tier 1 (75-100% UPC): $0
Tier 2 (50-74.9% UPC): $125
Tier 3 (25-49.9% UPC): $300
Tier 4 (0-24.9% UPC): $450
Note: A limited number of Tier 1 & Tier 2 slots are available each season. Once full, schools eligible for these tiers may still register at the next lowest available Tier price.

The standard fee for a field trip to The HEAL Project Farm is $600.

We offer a limited number of bus stipends to schools based on zip code and UPC tier. This funding varies by year and is provided by local sponsors with their own eligibility requirements. You will be automatically notified if you are eligible for a bus stipend from The HEAL Project.
We also recommend applying for transportation support from the Environmental Volunteers “Let’s Go!” Field Trip Fund.

Free cancellation until 2 weeks prior to your field trip
Cancellations within two weeks of your field trip will incur a $40 cancelation fee, including fully-subsidized trips.
No shows will not receive a refund
Field trips are held rain or shine. We consider cancellation and rescheduling only in the event of high wind storms, thunderstorms, extremely unhealthy air quality, or health-related risks.

Our registration system automatically applies grant-supported discounts for eligible schools and displays the price you’ll pay. If you have questions about registration, reach out to farm@thehealproject.org
Note that fully-subsidized and heavily-subsidized trips for Tier 1 and Tier 2 schools are limited! If all funded slots in a limited Tier are booked, schools will automatically be offered registration at the next available pricing Tier.
