The HEAL Project School Garden Handbook

Starting in one school in Half Moon Bay in 2001, The HEAL Project sprang up from concerns of parents and community members that children were becoming too detached from the food that nourishes them.

The HEAL Project now serves all four public elementary schools in our local school district in school gardens on each campus, and students from across San Mateo County at The San Mateo County School Farm field trip site in El Granada. After 20 years of seeing the value of experiential garden education, we began to dream about a way to share this model with more schools. With grant funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), we set out to create the San Mateo County School Garden Handbook.  Please register to download this valuable resource.
